Rich, solid dark chocolate engraved with a sculpted
pineapple, the symbol of welcome and hospitality.
In our town, about 200 years ago, a ship's captain just returned from the South Pacific, knocked on the door of the owner's stately mansion on Chestnut Street and presented him with the exotic fruit of the ananus satius plant,a pineapple.
This soon became the symbol of generosity and cheer. Gilded wooden pineapple Carvings confirmed that hospitality was found within when displayed by the homes of coastal New England, as well as Colonial Williamsburg.
